Google publishes its first dedicated guide for YouTube audio ads

Google has released its first standalone help page explaining how to create YouTube audio ads, giving advertisers an official reference for the format’s specifications and setup.

What’s happening. While YouTube audio ads have been available for several years, advertisers previously had to piece together information from broader documentation. The new help page consolidates the format’s requirements, campaign setup, and creative best practices in a single guide.

The details. The documentation confirms that audio ads are designed to reach users on audio-focused surfaces and during listening-first experiences across both YouTube and YouTube Music.

Advertisers upload a YouTube video as the creative, ideally using a static image or simple animation.

Creative length determines the viewing experience:

  • Videos up to 15 seconds serve as non-skippable ads.
  • Videos between 16 and 30 seconds serve as skippable ads.

Campaigns are created under the Brand awareness and reach objective by selecting the Audio video campaign subtype and using Target CPM bidding.

Why we care. For advertisers looking to expand brand awareness or reach users during audio-first experiences on YouTube and YouTube Music, this document makes the format easier to test and implement with confidence.

What we’re watching. The release doesn’t introduce a new advertising product, but it shows that Google is investing more in documenting and promoting YouTube’s audio inventory as advertisers increasingly look beyond traditional video placements.
